Yes, Lima is world-famous for its food (hello, ceviche and pisco sours), but if you’re craving something that feeds your creative soul—and maybe your suitcase—let me introduce you to the artsy side of Lima.
While you can find incredible art boutiques in Lima Peru, Barranco is the heart of Lima’s art scene. This bohemian neighborhood is a dream for anyone who loves art, design, and discovering one-of-a-kind pieces with a story. Think: hidden galleries, concept stores, folk art havens, and chocolate so beautiful it belongs in a museum.
Trust me—Barranco is the artistic soul of Lima, and I’ve got the inside scoop on where to go, what to buy, and the unforgettable people you’ll meet along the way.
Why Barranco is Lima’s Creative Soul

Barranco isn’t just pretty—it’s full of personality. Cobblestone streets, colorful murals on every corner, musicians playing in the plaza, and boutique after boutique packed with handmade treasures. It’s one of those rare places where you can shop, snack, and soak up culture—all on the same block.
Here’s why it’s the best spot for artistic shopping in Lima:
- Everything is made with meaning – Local artists, traditional techniques, modern twists
- The shops are experiences – You’re not just browsing; you’re connecting
- It’s wildly walkable – Perfect for boutique-hopping with a coffee or ice cream in hand
- The colonial streets and brightly painted buildings transport you to another time and place.
- Magical murals and art pieces can be found at nearly every corner.
My Favorite Barranco Art Story: Mr. Peru & the Night That Was Almost Too Good to Be True
Let’s rewind to one of my most iconic nights in Lima.
I was with a girlfriend, fresh off an incredible dinner at Isolina (seriously—go hungry), and we started strolling through Barranco. You know those perfect travel moments? This was one of them.
It was our last night of the trip—two moms on a much-needed getaway—and the setting felt straight out of a movie. Music spilled from colonial doorways, buildings were painted in every color of the rainbow, and suddenly, we found ourselves inside a gallery filled with bold pop art: glossy lips, nostalgic album covers, and moody beach scenes in every size.
That’s when we met the artist: Stefano Bermilion.

Not only is Stefano a talented painter—he’s also literally Mr. Peru. Yes, like international-pageant, sash-wearing, chiseled-jawline status. And while we promise we fell in love with the art first… well, it all kind of blurred together after that.
He was warm, full of stories, and when my friend bought a painting, he unframed it on the spot and wrapped it beautifully for travel. A total pro. We’ve kept in touch on Instagram, and it’s been so fun seeing his work journey off with other art lovers all over the world.
Pro Tip: perhaps give your husband a heads-up before sending him Stefano’s IG. Let’s just say we might have accidentally sent it to my friend’s husband to show off her new art piece… not realizing the feed was 90% modeling shots. Her husband had questions.
If you’re in Barranco, make a beeline to Stefano’s studio. His work—and his vibe—is unforgettable.

Where to Shop: Barranco’s Best Art Boutiques
Let’s talk boutiques. Barranco has so much going on when it comes to art and artisanal goods that it can honestly be a little overwhelming. We even tried to find an art tour—but most were food-focused. And while that’s great, I already eat my weight in Peruvian food (occupational hazard: we own a restaurant), and I don’t mess with the funkier stuff. Basic? Maybe. But honest.
The good news? I’ve narrowed it down to my current favorite spots—places I love and constantly send people to.
Dédalo Arte y Artesanía

A total icon. Set in a charming colonial home, Dédalo is a maze of handcrafted beauty and Peruvian textiles: bold ceramics, abstract paintings, clothing, handwoven scarves, statement jewelry—all made by Peruvian artists.
