Keeping to a budget is essential these days, and the good news is that in Lima, your dollars (or euros) go far—like really far. You can stay somewhere clean, safe, and well-located without blowing your trip fund.

I’ve tested a few of the best budget hotels in Lima myself—plus I’m scouting some promising new finds. Because I’d much rather put my money toward alpaca sweaters, great meals, and massages than pay luxury prices for a bed I barely see.

That said, I have standards and can be a bit of a snob. My husband stopped choosing hotels long ago, as I can usually find better deals at better properties. So behold: let my persnickety travel preferences and intense love of research serve you in your planning.

Hotels I’ve Stayed At (and Can Honestly Recommend)

These hotel recommendations are clean, safe, and well-located without the hefty price tag.

1. Aku Hotels – Simple, Safe, and Exceptionally Kind

  • What I paid: $41 on my last trip
  • Why I liked it: It’s clean, calm, and exceptionally well-located—no frills, just good fundamentals, including a good breakfast spread. The staff was lovely: when I forgot my power bank, the housekeeper turned it in, the front desk tracked me down on WhatsApp, and I had it back before my flight.
  • The vibe: Simple, professional, and reliable.
  • Safety: Excellent—felt comfortable walking in and out at all hours.

Why it’s a win: The Aku Hotel isn’t fancy, but exactly what you want in a city hotel: clean sheets, nice people, and zero stress.

2. Arte Hotel Lima – Boutique Comfort for Under $60

  • What I paid: $56/night
  • Why it stood out: Small but stylish. Clean white sheets, modern décor, and a peaceful setting near the Miraflores–San Isidro border.
  • The vibe: Urban minimalist meets cozy boutique.
  • Safety: Great area—quiet, upscale, with a great cafe in the lobby and well-lit at night.

Why it’s a win: The Arte Hotel feels like a design hotel, but you’ll still have money left over for dinner at La Mar.

Pro Tip

I’ve always found better rates through online consolidators (like Trip.com or Trivago Mobile ) than by contacting the hotels directly. Prices shift often, but with a little timing and flexibility, you can snag great deals.

3. Ikonik Miraflores – Great Design, Great Location

  • What I paid: As low as $63/night
  • Why I liked it: Polished interiors, crisp bedding, and a prime Miraflores address near shops, cafés, and the Malecón.
  • The vibe: Sleek, contemporary, and efficient— part of a European boutique hotel group and it shows.
  • Safety: Central, walkable, tourist-friendly and has 24 hour desk and security guard. Plus a fun elevator for your luggage so you don’t break your back on the stairs.

Why it’s a win: Ikonik is stylish, safe, and central. Hard to beat for the price.

Hotels On My Shortlist (and Why They Made It)

Tierra Viva Miraflores Mendiburu

  • Why it’s on my list: Tierra Viva Miraflores Mendiburu is a Peruvian-owned chain known for great service, spotless rooms, and strong Wi-Fi. Everyone raves about the staff.
  • What to expect: No-frills comfort in an excellent Miraflores location, great if you’re heading the La Mar for Ceviche.
  • Today’s price $55 dollars per night.

BTH Lima Golf

  • Why I’m intrigued: Tucked next to the historic Country Club Hotel, Yaku Spa (a personal favorite), a local Starbucks, and a charming café known for its over-the-top pastries and upscale Limeño feel, BTH Lima Golf brings bold design and creative energy to a locals-only pocket of San Isidro. Overlooking the golf course, it’s stylish, serene—and often under $80/night, which is a steal for the location.
  • Who it’s for: Travelers craving something cooler than a cookie-cutter business hotel with great amenities right outside your door.

Ibis Lima Larco Miraflores

The Ibis Lima Larco is a great location with great prices in the heart of Miraflores.

  • Why it’s worth considering: Predictable quality, clean rooms, low prices and solid value in a central location near the Malecon and LarcoMar. You know what you’re getting—and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Best Western Plus Urban Larco Hotel

The Best Western Plus Urban is located in Larcomar and the ocean, well-reviewed for service and comfort.

  • Who it’s for: Travelers who prioritize location and reliability over luxury.

Roosevelt Hotel & Suites – Best Location Near Dasso

Roosevelt Hotel & Suites exterior

The Roosevelt Hotel & Suites has a popular restaurant featuring American food because sometimes you need a burger.

  • Why it stands out: I toured this property and loved it. The location—steps from Dasso—is unbeatable: elegant, tree-lined, and full of cafés, boutiques, and local life.
  • The vibe: Classic Lima comfort. Clean rooms, great energy, and a feeling of understated old-school service.
  • Safety: Excellent—this is where chic Limeños actually live, shop, and meet for coffee.

Why it’s a win: You can live like a chic Limeño for under $80 a night.

The best budget hotels in Lima—like Aku, Arte, Ikonik, and Roosevelt Hotel & Suites—offer clean, safe, and stylish stays under $70 a night. I always find better rates through online consolidators than booking directly.

What’s Not For Me

Lima has many hostels and ultra-budget options—but that’s not my jam, and they aren’t that much less expensive than the ones I’ve outlined above. I need clean white sheets, a safe location, and absolutely no decorative pillows that can’t be washed (seriously, why are those still a thing?).

Simple is great. Simple and sketchy? Hard pass.

Airbnb & Apartment Options (To Be Continued)

Lima’s apartment rental scene is strong. There’s a group called Wynwood that manages modern, well-priced units in great neighborhoods, and I’ve noticed more Airbnb listings that look promising in Miraflores and Barranco.

I haven’t tried them yet—but they’re on my list. I’ll do a little recon and report back soon.

Final Word: Spend Smart, Sleep Well

You don’t have to spend a fortune to sleep well in Lima. These hotels are clean, safe, and thoughtfully run—the kind of places that make travel feel easy.

Because when it comes to travel, I believe in saving my soles (and dollars) for what really matters: food, fun, and yes… another alpaca sweater.
