When I first told people I was creating a blog about Lima, I got more than a few blank stares.

“Oh wow… that’s so interesting,” they’d say. But I could tell they were really thinking: Why?

Well, sillies, it’s because Lima is an undiscovered wonderland—full of charm, incredible restaurants, and yes… a lot of shopping. Yet most travelers still treat it as nothing more than a stopover: one night before heading to Machu Picchu, the Amazon, or the Sacred Valley.

But Lima has quietly reinvented itself into one of South America’s most exciting urban destinations—and its luxury hotel scene has risen to meet the moment.

In just a few years, the city has welcomed a wave of new five-star properties alongside beautifully restored historic icons. This isn’t by chance—it’s the result of a perfect storm:

  • Culinary Fame – Lima’s chefs are now global stars, drawing travelers eager to experience its food scene from breakfast to midnight cocktails.
  • Foreign Investment – International hotel brands have planted their flags here, bringing global service standards.
  • Economic Growth – Steady GDP gains, fueled by natural resources and exports, have increased both business and leisure travel.
  • Cultural Buzz – From art-filled Barranco to historic San Isidro, Lima is now seen as a cultural capital worth exploring.
  • Better Connections – More direct international flights mean Lima is no longer just a gateway—it’s a destination in its own right.

Today, travelers can choose from a spectrum of hotels: sky-high towers with rooftop pools, historic clubs with old-world elegance, and boutique gems tucked into artsy neighborhoods.

Here’s my take on Lima’s best five-star hotels—who they’re perfect for, who might want to look elsewhere, and whether they work for families.

A flagship of Peruvian luxury, the Belmond offers sweeping Pacific views, a rooftop pool, and fine dining just steps from the Malecón. The Observatory Restaurant’s breakfast is one of the best in the city.

  • Best for: Couples, honeymooners (we had our honeymoon here), and travelers who want indulgence with a view.
  • Not for: Budget-conscious travelers or those wanting bustling street life at their doorstep.
  • Good for families? Yes, especially in larger suites—staff are wonderfully accommodating.

InterContinental Lima – Quiet Luxury Steps from Larcomar

Brand new to Lima’s luxury scene, the InterContinental offers a blend of sleek, contemporary design and understated elegance. Rooms feature stunning ocean and city views, and the hotel’s atmosphere leans toward peaceful refinement.

With a rooftop pool, spa, and upscale dining, it’s just steps from Larcomar—perfect for those who want easy access to shopping, restaurants, and the Malecón without being in the middle of the bustle.

  • Best for: Travelers seeking brand-new luxury, modern design, and a quiet retreat near Larcomar.
  • Not for: Travelers who want a livelier, more social atmosphere.
  • Good for families? Could work, but better suited for adults given the sophisticated vibe.

The Country Club Lima Hotel is a cultural heritage landmark in San Isidro with colonial architecture, lush gardens, and the elegant Perroquet Restaurant. Staying here feels like stepping back into another era.

  • Best for: History lovers, traditionalists, and those attending events in San Isidro.
  • Not for: Travelers craving ocean views or lively nightlife nearby.
  • Good for families? Yes for older kids—less ideal for toddlers given the formal atmosphere.

Hotel B (Barranco) – Bohemian Boutique Luxury

The timeless Hotel B restored Belle Époque mansion filled with contemporary art. Located in Barranco’s vibrant arts district, it’s intimate, romantic, and unapologetically stylish.

It has a super-chic, moody bar downstairs and a lively rooftop bar as well. We know because our room was just underneath, which wasn’t the most awesome, but we survived.

  • Best for: Art lovers, couples, solo and design-conscious travelers.
  • Not for: Those seeking oceanfront views or resort-style amenities, or older guests who prefer fewer stairs.
  • Good for families? No—better suited for adults.

NHow Lima – Color, Art, and Creative Energy

One of the boldest new additions to Miraflores, NHow is playful, design-forward, and social. NHow has lots to offer, and you can expect a rooftop bar, gym, and splashes of local art at every turn.

  • Best for: Instagrammers, creatives, and younger travelers.
  • Not for: Guests who prefer traditional décor or quiet elegance.
  • Good for families? Not ideal—staff are kind, but the vibe is very adult-oriented.

Hotel Souma – Minimalist Chic by the Malecón

The SOUMA Hotel is a boutique newcomer with clean lines, warm textures, and just enough Peruvian accents to feel local. It’s more like a stylish residence than a hotel and sits in a prime location overlooking the pacific near the Malecón and Lover’s Park.

  • Best for: Design lovers, those craving an ocean view, solo travelers, and couples.
  • Not for: Guests expecting resort-scale amenities.
  • Good for families? Maybe—great location and safe, but limited on-site facilities for kids.

Swissôtel Lima – Traditional Luxury with a Spa Focus

Located in San Isidro, Swissôtel is polished, old school, and perfect for unwinding. Its spa is one of the city’s best, and dining is exceptional.

  • Best for: Wellness travelers and business guests seeking downtime.
  • Not for: Those wanting nightlife right outside the door.
  • Good for families? Yes—calm, secure, and home to one of the best pools in Lima, though inland from the coast.

AC Hotel by Marriott Miraflores – Sleek Oceanfront Comfort

Steps from the Malecón, the AC by Marriott offers minimalist rooms, ocean-facing lounges, and one of Lima’s best rooftop sunset spots.

This is where I stayed on my last trip and love it. I had a partial Ocean View room and it was everything I could ask for! I booked it last minute through Trivago deals (taking me to Trip.com) and ended up paying just $133 a night!

  • Best for: Travelers wanting modern comfort in a prime walking location.
  • Not for: Guests seeking ornate design or resort-style amenities.
  • Good for families? Yes—walkable location makes exploring Miraflores easy, but there’s no pool.

Part of Accor’s upscale brand, the Pullman hotel blends contemporary design with Peruvian touches. Just a short walk from the Malecón, it offers a rooftop pool, stylish bar, and consistently good service.

  • Best for: Travelers wanting an international 5-star feel with a local twist and a walkable location.
  • Not for: Those craving historic charm or boutique quirkiness.
  • Good for families? Yes—location makes it easy to combine sightseeing with downtime.

Quick Tips for Choosing a 5-Star Hotel

  • Pick Your Neighborhood Wisely – For ocean views and walkability, choose Miraflores. For art, nightlife, and a bohemian vibe, go with Barranco. For a calmer, upscale residential feel, San Isidro is your spot.
  • Decide on Your Vibe – Do you want bold design and Instagram-worthy spaces (NHow, Hotel B), or understated elegance (Swissôtel, Country Club)?
  • Check the Amenities – Rooftop pools, world-class spas, and in-house fine dining vary widely. Make sure the perks match your priorities.
  • Think About Accessibility – If you want to walk everywhere, choose a central location near the Malecón or Kennedy Park. For quiet, pick a more residential spot in San Isidro.
  • Plan for Your Travel Crew – Families may want larger suites and kid-friendly amenities (JW Marriott, Pullman, Belmond), while couples or solo travelers might prefer intimate boutique stays.
